Target Information
In the developing cortex, cortical neurons must migrate over long distances to reach the site of their final differentiation. DCX is a cytoplasmic protein that directs neuronal migration by regulating microtubule organization and stability. It contains two doublecortin domains that bind microtubules and interacts with LIS1, a regulatory gamma subunit of platelet activating factor acetylhydrolase, which is essential for proper microtubule function in the developing cortex. Mutations in the DCX gene cause X-linked lissencephaly.
