Target Information
Action potentials in vertebrate neurons are followed by an afterhyperpolarization (AHP) that may persist for several seconds and influence neuronal firing patterns. Each AHP component is kinetically distinct and mediated by different calcium-activated potassium channels.
KCNN3, a member of the KCNN family, encodes a protein activated before membrane hyperpolarization, regulating neuronal excitability by contributing to the slow component of synaptic AHP. The encoded protein is an integral membrane protein forming a voltage-independent calcium-activated channel with three other calmodulin-binding subunits.
