Target Information

Ribosomes are the organelles responsible for protein synthesis, consisting of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits include 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The RPL14 gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is part of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L14E family. It contains a basic region-leucine zipper (bZIP)-like domain and is located in the cytoplasm.
This gene includes a polymorphic trinucleotide (GCT) repeat, resulting in a variable stretch of alanine residues. Multiple transcript variants exist, all encoding the same protein. As typical for ribosomal protein genes, several processed pseudogenes are found throughout the genome.
