Target Information

The CDKN2A gene produces multiple transcript variants differing in their first exons.
Two variants encode isoforms that inhibit CDK4 kinase, while another variant encodes the ARF protein, which stabilizes tumor suppressor p53 by sequestering MDM2.
Despite structural differences, these proteins share a common role in regulating G1 cell cycle progression.
CDKN2A is frequently mutated or deleted in various tumors and functions as an important tumor suppressor gene.
