Target Information

AXL is a chronic myelogenous leukemia-associated oncogene also linked to colon cancer and melanoma. It encodes a receptor tyrosine kinase that transduces extracellular matrix signals into the cytoplasm by binding growth factors such as vitamin K-dependent protein GAS6, promoting cell proliferation.
TAM receptors, including AXL, are involved in phagocytosis of apoptotic cells. Mice lacking all three TAM receptors exhibit degenerative phenotypes and autoimmune characteristics similar to systemic lupus erythematosus.
AXL may act as an entry receptor for filoviruses and serves as a marker for specific dendritic cell subpopulations (Siglec 6+/Axl+). Its expression can be upregulated by TLR ligands (e.g., LPS, poly I:C). Soluble AXL is generated by proteolytic cleavage, and elevated plasma levels can indicate inflammation or cancer.
