Product Specific Information

Rabbit anti-human NFκB inhibitor alpha antibody recognizes NF-kappa-B inhibitor alpha (IkB alpha), one of seven members of the IkB class of inhibitor proteins identified to date.

Target Information

IkB-alpha is a 40 kDa protein that inhibits NF-kappaB activity by binding NF-kappaB dimers in the cytosol, masking their nuclear localization sequences, and preventing nuclear translocation. Upon stimulation by cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β), chemokines, PMA, growth factors, LPS, UV irradiation, viral infection, or stress, IkB-alpha is degraded, liberating NF-kappaB for gene activation.
The human gene is located on chromosome 14q. Activation of NFkB requires phosphorylation of IkB on serine residues 32 and 36 by IkB kinase alpha (IKKα, also known as CHUK). IKKα interacts with IkB-alpha and is essential for NFkB activation in response to proinflammatory cytokines. The IKK complex, composed of IKKα, IKKβ, and IKKγ, is regulated by NFkB-inducing kinase (NIK), a key mediator of NFkB pathway activation.
