Target Information
Langerin (CD207) is a type II membrane-associated C-type lectin expressed exclusively by Langerhans cells. It recognizes mannose residues through its carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) and is found both on the cell surface and intracellularly, closely associated with Birbeck granules. Transfection of Langerin cDNA into fibroblasts induces membrane structures characteristic of Birbeck granules, highlighting its role in membrane superimposition and BG formation.
