Target Information

STAU1 belongs to a family of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA)-binding proteins that play roles in the transport and localization of mRNAs within subcellular compartments. These proteins contain multiple dsRNA-binding domains essential for binding RNAs with double-stranded secondary structures.
Human STAU1 also has a microtubule-binding domain similar to that of MAP1B and binds tubulin. It is localized in the cytoplasm associated with the rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER), suggesting involvement in mRNA transport via the microtubule network.
STAU1 interacts with influenza ribonucleoproteins NS1, NP, and PA, and is required for efficient viral replication.
