Target Information
ESRRB (steroid hormone receptor ERR2) is involved in the maintenance of self-renewal and pluripotency of embryonic and trophoblast stem cells through FGF and Wnt signaling pathways. Upon FGF signaling activation, ESRRB interacts with KDM1A by binding to enhancer sites of ELF5 and EOMES, activating transcription and promoting trophoblast stem cell self-renewal.
ESRRB also regulates expression of multiple rod-specific genes and is required for survival of this cell type. Mutations in ESRRB can cause autosomal recessive deafness (DFNB35).
