Target Information
SENP8 (Cysteine protease FKSG8; DEN1; FKSG8; HsT17512; NEDP1; PRSC2; SUMO/sentrin specific protease family member 8) is a cysteine protease belonging to the ULP family of deubiquitinases. Members of this family contain a C-terminal catalytic domain and N-terminal regions that determine substrate specificity.
SENP8 (24 kDa) regulates the NEDD8 pathway by processing preNEDD8 to its mature form and removing NEDD8 from substrates such as Cullins and p53. It may prevent accumulation of hyper-neddylated Cullin and maintain mono-neddylated Cullin levels, enhancing ubiquitination efficiency by SCF ubiquitin ligases.
