Target Information
GDF-15 belongs to the TGF-beta cytokine family, which plays key roles in prenatal development, postnatal growth, and tissue remodeling. It is predominantly expressed in the placenta and at lower levels in other tissues. The presence of GDF-15 in amniotic fluid and elevated serum levels during pregnancy suggest its involvement in gestation and embryonic development.
GDF-15 generally exhibits tumor-suppressive activity and is secreted in response to p53 pathway activation. Elevated serum GDF-15 levels correlate with the progression of several tumor types, including colorectal, pancreatic, and prostate cancers.
