Target Information

PGP9.5 (Protein gene product 9.5, UCH-L1, PARK5) is a neuron-specific protein distinct from neuron-specific enolase. It has a molecular weight of 27 kDa and belongs to the ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase family (peptidase family C12). PGP9.5 exhibits both hydrolase and ligase activities, generating ubiquitin monomers from small C-terminal adducts. It is found in neurons and nerve fibers of the central and peripheral nervous system, neuroendocrine cells, renal tubules, spermatogonia, Leydig cells, and ovarian tissues. Overexpression is associated with non-small cell lung cancer, while decreased expression correlates with Huntington and Alzheimer diseases. PGP9.5 serves as a neuronal marker and is valuable in neurodegenerative disorder research, including Parkinson disease studies.
