Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
CATSPER1 is a voltage-gated calcium channel that plays a central role in calcium-dependent physiological responses essential for successful fertilization, including sperm hyperactivation, acrosome reaction, and chemotaxis towards the oocyte. It is activated by extracellular progesterone and prostaglandins in the following order of potency: progesterone > PGF1-alpha = PGE1 > PGA1 > PGE2 >> PGD2.
Progesterone activation shifts voltage dependence toward more physiological negative membrane potentials and is not mediated by metabotropic receptors or second messengers. Sperm capacitation enhances the effect of progesterone by providing an additional negative shift. The channel is also activated by elevated intracellular pH.
