Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins exhibiting significant biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. These range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa, with isoelectric points between 4.9 and 7.8.
Individual human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20. Expression patterns vary by epithelial type and differentiation stage, aiding in distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies are valuable tools in tumor differential diagnosis using immunohistochemistry, and also useful in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
