Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes a unique extracellular epitope of CD2, a 50 kDa glycoprotein present on human peripheral blood T-lymphocytes and NK cells, and is expressed by all thymocytes.

Target Information

CD2 (LFA-2) is a monomeric surface antigen (MW 45–58 kDa) of the human T-lymphocyte lineage, expressed on nearly all peripheral blood T cells and some NK cells, but not on B lymphocytes.
Monoclonal antibodies against CD2 inhibit rosette formation with sheep erythrocytes, indicating CD2’s role as the erythrocyte receptor or a closely associated molecule.
CD2 interacts with CD58 to stabilize adhesion between T cells and antigen-presenting or target cells. Although the CD2–CD58 interaction has relatively low affinity in solution, it achieves strong adhesion at the cell interface.
T cell activation increases CD2 expression and mobility, facilitating contact with CD58 and strengthening intercellular adhesion.
CD2 deficiency has been linked to reduced intestinal inflammation and altered immune responses.
Diseases associated with CD2 dysfunction include penile squamous cell carcinoma and immune deficiency due to thymic absence.
