Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is part of a potentially heterotetrameric voltage-independent potassium channel activated by intracellular calcium. Activation leads to membrane hyperpolarization, promoting calcium influx. It may represent the main calcium-activated potassium channel in T-lymphocytes. While related to other KCNN family genes, it is distinct enough to form a new subfamily.
