Target Information
Neurofilaments are intermediate filament proteins found specifically in neurons and are involved in the maintenance of neuronal caliber.
They are composed of three major proteins: NF-L (light), NF-M (medium), and NF-H (heavy).
NF-L is the light or low molecular weight microfilament subunit (~70 kDa), while NF-H runs at 180–220 kDa on SDS-PAGE gels.
The expression of these neuronal intermediate filament proteins is tissue-specific and developmentally regulated.
