Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and are involved in protein synthesis within mitochondria. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with approximately 75% protein to rRNA composition, unlike prokaryotic ribosomes. Mammalian mitoribosomes lack a 5S rRNA and show significant sequence variability across species. The MRPL3 gene encodes a 39S subunit protein belonging to the L3P ribosomal protein family. A pseudogene corresponding to this gene is found on chromosome 13q.
