Target Information
Alkaline phosphatase (ALPL) is a homodimeric enzyme (~86 kDa) containing two zinc atoms per monomer, essential for catalytic activity. It is optimally active in alkaline pH and is present in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes with conserved function but structural variations. ALP plays a key role in liver metabolism and skeletal development. In bacteria, it provides inorganic phosphate, and in yeast, it serves as a model for studying membrane protein sorting.
