Target Information

Enolase (2-phosphogly-cerate hydrolyase or phosphopyruvate hydrates) is a glycolytic enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate. It consists of three subunits: alpha, beta, and gamma.
Non-neuronal Enolase (ENO1) is a mammalian isoform composed of two alpha subunits. The ENO1 gene also encodes a shorter monomeric structural lens protein, tau-crystallin.
ENO1 functions in glycolysis and plays roles in growth control, hypoxia tolerance, allergic responses, and fibrinolytic activity by acting as a plasminogen receptor on cell surfaces such as leukocytes and neurons.
It stimulates immunoglobulin production and serves as a diagnostic marker for various tumors and hypoxic brain injury. It is also associated with endometriosis and autoimmune diseases such as Hashimoto encephalopathy (HE) and Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT).
