Product Specific Information
This SMMS-1 monoclonal antibody reacts with both isoforms of the human smooth muscle myosin heavy chain (SM1 and SM2), key structural proteins in smooth muscle cells. These proteins serve as terminal differentiation markers for smooth muscle cells and are also expressed by myoepithelial cells.
In normal breast tissue, myoepithelial cells form the outer layer of the lumen lining. In benign and in situ breast lesions, the intact myoepithelial layer stains with SMMS-1, while loss of staining indicates invasive cancer.
This antibody cross-reacts with bovine, canine, feline, and rat smooth muscle myosin heavy chains.
Applications Reported: Suitable for microscopy, immunocytochemistry, and immunohistochemistry (frozen and paraffin-embedded sections).
Applications Tested: Verified for IHC of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded human tissue using low pH antigen retrieval at ≤30 µg/mL.
Excitation: 488 nm; Emission: 519 nm; Laser: Blue Laser.
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.
Target Information
SM-MHC is a cytoplasmic structural protein that forms a major component of the contractile apparatus in smooth muscle cells. Its expression is developmentally regulated and specific to smooth muscle tissue. Two isoforms have been identified: MHC-1 and MHC-2.
