Target Information
Gemin 3 is a member of the DEAD box protein family, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), and functions as a putative RNA helicase. These proteins are involved in various RNA-related processes such as translation initiation, splicing, and ribosome assembly. Gemin 3, part of the SMN complex, exhibits ATPase activity and may play a catalytic role in RNP processing. Dysfunction of Gemin 3 is associated with spinal muscular dystrophy and muscular atrophy.
