Target Information

The myocyte enhancer factor-2 (MEF-2) family of transcription factors associates with co-repressors or co-activators to regulate development and function of T cells, neuronal cells, and muscle cells.
Four family members (MEF-2A, MEF-2B, MEF-2C, MEF-2D) arise from alternatively spliced transcripts and bind as homo- or heterodimers to MEF-2 sites in gene promoters.
Differential expression of these members suggests distinct roles during embryogenesis and development, particularly in mesodermal differentiation and muscle gene regulation.
