Target Information
ERN2 (endoplasmic reticulum to nucleus signaling 2) is a serine/threonine kinase and human homolog of the yeast Ire1 gene product. It plays a role in multiple aspects of the ER stress response in mammalian cells. Unlike related proteins, this pro-apoptotic factor does not participate in the unfolded-protein response. Overexpression of ERN2 activates BiP and CHOP expression, leading to programmed cell death. Ern2 is suggested to be involved in various facets of the ER stress response in mammalian systems.
