COL2A1은 type II collagen의 alpha-1 chain으로, 연골과 안구의 유리체 내에서 발견되는 섬유성 콜라겐입니다.
이 유전자의 변이는 achondrogenesis, chondrodysplasia, 조기 발병 가족성 골관절염, SED congenita, Langer-Saldino achondrogenesis, Kniest dysplasia, Stickler syndrome type I, spondyloepimetaphyseal dysplasia Strudwick type 등과 관련이 있습니다.
또한 chondrocalcin 처리 결함(이 콜라겐 분자의 C-propeptide인 칼슘 결합 단백질)은 chondrodysplasia와도 연관됩니다.
