Specificity Comments:
IDO2 is a presumptive immunomodulatory gene based on its structural similarity to IDO1 and expression in various antigen-presenting cells. Both IDO1 and IDO2 catalyze the conversion of tryptophan to kynurenine. Although both enzymes exhibit robust catabolic activity, IDO2 requires slightly different in vitro conditions to reach the same activity level as IDO1. The enzymatic activity of IDO2 in human dendritic cells remains under debate. Further research is needed to clarify substrate preferences and reaction pathways. Distinct expression patterns and responses to stimuli suggest non-redundant functions between IDO1 and IDO2.

Target Information

Along with enzymes encoded by the INDO and TDO2 genes, the enzyme encoded by the INDOL1 gene metabolizes tryptophan in the kynurenine pathway.
