Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
- The 20S core consists of 4 rings (2 alpha and 2 beta rings, each with 7 subunits).
- The 19S regulator includes a base (6 ATPase and 2 non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits).
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides via an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome plays an essential role in class I MHC peptide processing.
This gene encodes a non-ATPase subunit of the 19S regulator, with two transcript isoforms and pseudogenes on chromosomes 3 and 20.
