Target Information
Galectin 3 is a galactose-specific lectin that binds IgE. It may mediate endothelial cell migration via interaction with alpha-3, beta-1 integrin and CSPG4. Together with DMBT1, it is required for terminal differentiation of columnar epithelial cells during early embryogenesis. In the nucleus, it acts as a pre-mRNA splicing factor. It is involved in acute inflammatory responses such as neutrophil activation and adhesion, monocyte/macrophage chemoattraction, opsonization of apoptotic neutrophils, and mast cell activation.
