Product Specific Information
- For Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Neuron specific enolase (NSE, ENO1, ENO2, ENO3) catalyzes the conversion of 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate in glycolysis and the reverse in gluconeogenesis.
NSE is stable in biological fluids and diffuses into extracellular medium and CSF upon neuronal injury.
It is one of three mammalian enolases (α, β, γ), expressed respectively in most tissues, muscle, and neurons/neuroendocrine cells.
Co-expression with chromogranin A is common in neuroendocrine neoplasms.
NSE antibodies are valuable for identifying neuronal cell bodies, developing neuronal lineages, and neuroendocrine cells.
Elevated NSE levels serve as biomarkers for neuronal injury and are clinically used in diagnosing stroke, hypoxic brain damage, status epilepticus, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, herpetic encephalitis, and certain cancers such as neuroblastoma and small cell lung cancer.
