Target Information

PUM1 (pumilio homolog 1) is a sequence-specific RNA-binding protein acting as a post-transcriptional repressor by binding to the 3′-UTR of mRNA targets.
It belongs to the PUF family of evolutionarily conserved RNA-binding proteins.
PUM1 recognizes the Pumilio Response Element (PRE, 5′-UGUANAUA-3′), related to the Nanos Response Element (NRE).
It mediates repression through recruitment of the CCR4-POP2-NOT deadenylase complex, leading to translational inhibition and mRNA degradation.
Mutations in the PUM1 gene can result in spinocerebellar ataxia 47.
