Target Information
Enolase (2-phosphoglycerate hydrolyase or phosphopyruvate hydrates) is a glycolytic enzyme catalyzing the conversion of 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate. It consists of three subunits (alpha, beta, gamma).
Non-neuronal Enolase (ENO1) is an isoform composed of two alpha subunits and also encodes a shorter monomeric structural lens protein, tau-crystallin.
ENO1 participates in glycolysis and in processes such as growth control, hypoxia tolerance, and allergic responses. It can act as a receptor and activator of plasminogen on cell surfaces, stimulating immunoglobulin production.
ENO1 is used as a diagnostic marker for various tumors and hypoxic brain injury, and also serves as a marker for endometriosis.
Antibodies against ENO1 are found in sera from patients with cancer-associated retinopathy syndrome (CAR) and are identified as autoantigens in Hashimoto encephalopathy associated with Hashimoto thyroiditis.
