배경 설명
The serine-threonine protein kinase encoded by the AKT1 gene is catalytically inactive in serum-starved fibroblasts. AKT1 and AKT2 are activated by platelet-derived growth factor via phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase. In the nervous system, AKT mediates growth factor-induced neuronal survival by suppressing apoptosis through phosphorylation of apoptotic components. Mutations in AKT1 are associated with Proteus syndrome. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist. [RefSeq, Jul 2011]
