Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Thioredoxins (Trx) are small, multifunctional proteins with oxidoreductase activity, present in virtually all living cells. They contain a redox-active disulfide/dithiol group within the conserved Cys-Gly-Pro-Cys active site. The cysteine residues in the active center can form intramolecular disulfide bonds, which are reduced by thioredoxin reductase using NADPH as an electron donor. Reduced Trx acts as a hydrogen donor for ribonucleotide reductase, essential for DNA synthesis, and functions as a general protein disulfide reductase involved in growth and redox regulation. Trx also interacts with protein disulfide-isomerase (PDI) and transcription factors such as p53, NF-kB, and AP-1. Additionally, Trx contributes to the removal of H₂O₂ in conjunction with methionine sulfoxide reductase or peroxiredoxins.
