Target Information
The PHGDH gene encodes an enzyme involved in the early steps of L-serine synthesis in animal cells. L-serine is necessary for the synthesis of D-serine and other amino acids. The enzyme requires NAD/NADH as a cofactor and functions as a homotetramer. Mutations in this gene have been linked to congenital microcephaly, psychomotor retardation, and other neurological symptoms. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, though many full-length forms remain uncharacterized.
