Target Information
IRF8 (interferon regulatory factor 8) is a transcriptional activator or repressor that binds to the upstream regulatory region of type I IFN and IFN-inducible MHC class I genes. It plays a negative regulatory role in immune cells and is involved in CD8+ dendritic cell differentiation by forming a complex with the BATF-JUNB heterodimer. This complex recognizes the AICE sequence, an immune-specific regulatory element, leading to cooperative binding of BATF and IRF8 and activation of immune-related genes. Mutations in this gene can result in immunodeficiency 32A and 32B.
