Target Information
CD26 (Dipeptidyl peptidase IV, DPP IV, adenosine deaminase binding protein) is a homodimeric atypical serine protease belonging to the prolyl oligopeptidase family. CD26 is expressed on lymphocytes and upregulated during T-cell activation. It is also found on activated B cells, natural killer cells, and epithelial tissues.
CD26 participates in various biological functions, including:
- T-cell activation
- Cell adhesion with extracellular matrix proteins (fibronectin, collagens)
- HIV infection mechanisms
CD26 is identical to adenosine deaminase complexing protein-2 and T-cell activation antigen CD26. It functions as a serine exopeptidase that cleaves X-proline dipeptides from the N-terminus of polypeptides.
Alterations in CD26 peptidase activity are associated with malignant transformation, with enzymatic activity increasing with tumor grade and severity.
Expression changes have been reported in monocytes and CD4+ T cells during rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.
