Ephrin receptors mediate developmental events, particularly in the nervous system.
EPHA3 encodes a protein that binds ephrin-A ligands.
Receptors in the EPH subfamily typically have:

• A single kinase domain
• An extracellular region containing a Cys-rich domain
• Two fibronectin type III repeats

Ephrin receptors are divided into two groups based on extracellular domain sequence similarity and ligand binding affinity.
EPHA3 specifically binds ephrin-A ligands.
