Target Information
The G(0)-G(1) switch gene 2 (G0S2) encodes a mitochondrial protein involved in apoptosis, lipolysis, and triacylglycerol hydrolysis. In adipocytes, G0S2 binds to adipose triglyceride lipase, reducing lipid droplet breakdown. Increased G0S2 expression is associated with non-converted lipid accumulation in Crohn’s colitis. Mutations in G0S2 are common in squamous lung cancer, while epigenetic silencing occurs in breast cancer, impairing apoptotic regulation. When active, G0S2 mediates Bcl-2/Bax heterodimer formation, promoting apoptosis in cancer cells.
