Target Information

Beta tubulins are one of two core tubulin protein families (alpha and beta) that form microtubules, essential components of the eukaryotic cytoskeleton.
Beta-III tubulin is primarily expressed in neurons and is involved in neurogenesis, axon guidance, and maintenance. Mutations in the beta tubulin gene can cause congenital fibrosis of the extraocular muscles type 3. Beta-III tubulin is also transiently expressed in non-neuronal embryonic tissues and Sertoli cells.
Tubulin undergoes post-translational modifications such as glutamylation and phosphorylation (e.g., Ser-172 by CDK1), which influence its incorporation into microtubules.
Due to its ubiquitous expression, beta-tubulin is widely used as a loading control in protein detection assays such as Western blotting.
