Target Information

Fibronectin is a disulfide-bonded dimer with a molecular weight range of 230–250 kDa. In connective tissues and vessels, fibronectin exists as an insoluble, cross-linked polymer. It is abundant during embryonic development and tissue remodeling, and also found as a soluble plasma protein.

Fibronectin consists of repeating modules forming domains that interact with collagen, heparin, and cell surface receptors such as integrins. It plays a key role in cell adhesion and migration processes, including embryogenesis, wound healing, blood coagulation, host defense, and metastasis.

In lung carcinoma, fibronectin expression is elevated, particularly in non-small cell lung carcinoma. Its interaction enhances tumorigenicity and resistance to apoptosis induced by chemotherapy. The gene encoding fibronectin undergoes alternative splicing, potentially producing up to 20 transcript variants, though some full-length forms remain undetermined.
