Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities and are involved in various biological processes including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion.
The FGF23 gene product inhibits renal tubular phosphate transport and mutations are associated with autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets. Abnormally high expression levels are found in oncogenic hypophosphatemic osteomalacia, and mutations can also cause familial tumoral calcinosis with hyperphosphatemia.
