Target Information
Alpha Tubulin is a component of a heterodimer consisting of alpha and beta tubulin subunits. Each subunit (~55 kDa) forms the basic building block of microtubules, which are cylindrical filamentous structures found in nearly all eukaryotic cells. Microtubules provide structural support, intracellular transport pathways, and play a crucial role in mitosis.
Microtubules are composed of alpha and beta tubulin heterodimers, while gamma tubulin is essential for microtubule nucleation. Multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes are highly conserved among species. The gene encoding alpha tubulin is highly similar to the mouse and rat Tuba1 gene. Expression is predominantly observed in morphologically differentiated neurologic cells.
