Target Information
Coagulation factor V (or Proaccelerin) is an essential component of the blood coagulation cascade. It circulates in plasma and is converted to the active form by thrombin, generating heavy and light chains held together by calcium ions. Active factor V acts as a cofactor with activated factor X to convert prothrombin to thrombin.
Defects in the Factor V gene can lead to disorders such as Factor V deficiency, thrombophilia due to activated protein C resistance, Budd-Chiari syndrome, ischemic stroke, and recurrent pregnancy loss.
