CHMP4C는 chromatin-modifying protein/charged multivesicular body protein (CHMP) 패밀리에 속하며, ESCRT-III 복합체의 구성 요소입니다. ESCRT-III는 표면 수용체 단백질의 분해와 내포성 다소포체(multivesicular bodies, MVBs) 형성에 관여합니다. 일부 CHMP 단백질은 핵과 세포질/소포 내에 모두 분포하며, CHMP1A는 MVB 형성과 세포 주기 조절에 모두 필요합니다.
