Leucine-rich repeat transmembrane neuronal proteins (LRRTMs)는 신경계에서 차등적으로 발현되며, 시냅스 전후부의 글루타메이트성 분화에 관여합니다. LRRTM1과 LRRTM2는 시냅스 전 분화를 유도하는 데 가장 강력한 역할을 합니다.
LRRTM 단백질은 10개의 extracellular leucine-rich repeat와 짧은 intracellular tail을 가지는 type I transmembrane 단백질로, 발달 단계에 따라 다른 발현 패턴을 보입니다.
LRRTM1은 모계에서 억제되고 부계에서 발현되는 유전자로, 손잡이 및 정신분열증과의 연관성이 보고되었습니다.
