Target Information
Component of cytochrome c oxidase, the last enzyme in the mitochondrial electron transport chain driving oxidative phosphorylation.
Cytochrome c oxidase (complex IV, CIV) catalyzes the reduction of oxygen to water, transferring electrons from reduced cytochrome c via copper and heme centers to the active site.
This process contributes to the electrochemical gradient required for ATP synthesis.
