This antibody detects endogenous levels of total ITGAL.
Target Information
CD11a (LFA-1 alpha, ITGAL) forms the LFA-1 complex together with CD18 (alphaLbeta2 integrin). It plays a key role in leukocyte adhesion by interacting with ICAM-1, -2, and -3, and is involved in lymphocyte costimulatory signaling. CD11a exists in low- and high-affinity conformations depending on cell activation state. It regulates immune cell interactions, differentiation, and T-cell effector functions. Targeting CD11a with antibodies or small molecules has therapeutic potential for inflammatory diseases. For example, the humanized anti-CD11a antibody Efalizumab (Raptiva) is used to inhibit T-cell migration, while simvastatin binding to CD11a modulates immune activity. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms of CD11a are known. Dysfunction of CD11a is associated with benign cephalic histiocytosis and leukocyte adhesion deficiency.
