The FBXO6 gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family, characterized by an approximately 40-amino-acid F-box motif.
F-box proteins form one of the subunits of the ubiquitin protein ligase complex SCFs (SKP1–Cullin–F-box), which mediate phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
F-box proteins are categorized into:

• Fbws: containing WD-40 domains
• Fbls: containing leucine-rich repeats
• Fbxs: containing other protein-protein interaction motifs or none

FBXO6 belongs to the Fbxs class, and its C-terminal region shows high similarity to rat NFB42, which may be involved in cell cycle regulation.
