Target Information
Cadherins are a family of transmembrane glycoproteins that mediate Ca²⁺-dependent cell-cell adhesion. These proteins are differentially expressed across tissues and play key roles in maintaining tissue integrity and morphogenesis.
Cadherins are categorized into type I and type II subgroups:
- Type I cadherins: E-cadherin (cadherin-1), N-cadherin (cadherin-2), P-cadherin (cadherin-3), R-cadherin (cadherin-4)
- Type II cadherins: K-cadherin (cadherin-6), OB-cadherin (cadherin-11)
K-cadherin (cadherin-6) is expressed in the proximal tubule epithelium of the kidney, the origin of most renal cell carcinomas.
