Target Information
Bone Morphogenic Proteins (BMP) are members of the TGF-beta superfamily that influence bone and cartilage formation. Mature BMPs are 30–38 kDa proteins with a TGF-beta-like cysteine knot configuration. Lovostatin increases bone formation by activating the bmp-2 gene. BMPs stimulate bone matrix protein production and affect stromal cell and osteoclast proliferation. They also play roles in development, cell proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation, and morphogenesis. BMPs bind to type II receptors, which recruit type I receptors, activating the Smad signaling pathway.
